Tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship

The theme for the World No Tobacco Day 2013 is “ban tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship”. Tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship increase smoking initiation among youths, help reassure current smokers and create a climate where smoking is seen as normal social behaviour. In countries where direct advertising and promotion of tobacco products in traditional media are banned, the tobacco industry has shifted its focus to other types of advertising that are unregulated.
